Barbara Ann (Bierstedt) Lowe, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2023. She was born March 8, 1936, in Keystone, Oklahoma to Walter & Okla Beirstedt. She moved to Sand Springs where she attended school and graduated in 1954. Ohio became her home in 1955 when she moved to Cleveland and then to Akron. She called Akron home but was always an “Okie” at heart.
She retired from Babcock & Wilcox in 1998 after twenty-five years of service. She cherished the friends she made there. She was a Christian woman, saved at the age of thirteen and was a lifetime member of Central Community Church after moving to Akron. She loved the Lord and her church family.
She was a Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed watching college football. She always had a hard time watching the Ohio State Buckeyes play the Oklahoma Sooners because she loved both teams.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Blanche Wotring and brother, Don Bierstedt. She is survived by her children; Margaret, Don (Christine), Ron (Dianne) and stepson, Roger (Lisa); eight grandchildren, Jay, Danielle, Mary, Troy, Madison, Meredith, Grace and Maxwell; one great grandson, Tommy. She loved her family and was a very proud grandma, talking about her grandkids to anyone who would listen.
Barb will be remembered as a great mom and grandma, a loyal friend who never met a stranger, and a faithful follower of the Lord.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron. Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev. David Harbeson and Pastor Clarence Miller officiating. Burial to follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
