Benton Ford

Benton Holloway Ford Sr., 79, passed away May 14, 2014. Born April 27, 1935 in Chattanooga, TN. to the late Walter Lewis and Sarah Ellen Ford, Benton lived in Akron for the past 62 years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carrol Marie (Baker). Their union was blessed with seven children: Sarah Hartman, Benton (Renee) Ford, Franklin (Anna) Ford, Marie (Jay) Powell, Lorene (Berry) Wise, Ruth (Jeff) Solomon and Michael (Lisa) Ford. Benton also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters, Benton leaves his sisters Helen Jones of Alabama, Mary Ellen (Raleigh) Wallace of Tennessee and Sheila (Mike) McKaig of Georgia. Benton served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and retired from Asplundh Tree Service after 43 years of service. Benton encouraged his children with their many passions and activities, spending countless hours chaperoning the children through their years of participating in the Kenmore High School Marching Band. After retiring, Benton's passions included gardening and spending time with his ever expanding family, especially the little children. Benton will be loved and missed by countless family and friends, including his special friend Everett Little of Alabama and Everett's family.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 - 6:30 pm at the Schlup Pucak Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron., where Funeral Services will be Monday, May 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Pastor Gerald Grey officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park where Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post # 3383. To help with the unexpected loss, please make donations to the family in lieu of flowers.
