Bettie L Smith 92 years of Akron, went home to be with the Lord, August 16, 2014. A life resident of the area Bettie retired from Ohio Bell after service as a Long Distance Operator.
A Marine S/Sgt., Bettie served in both WWII and the Korean War. She love to volunteer, Bettie was one of the first volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House, she volunteered at Childrens Hospital, her church, tutored at school, and sang with the Betty Jane Mothers Singers. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society. The Emerald Chapter Of Women Marines, Kenmore AARP and Senior Center.
Preceded in death by her parents Valentine and Margaret Pfromm, her beloved husband Vincent, sisters Eleanor Reitenbach and Toni Wilson, she is survived by sons Michael ( Yvonne) of Canton, Eric (Rosetta) of Wadsworth, granddaughters Amanda and Samantha and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 5-8PM, Tuesday at the Schlup-Pucak Funeral Chapel, 788 Kenmore Blvd., Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2101 16th St Sw with Fr. Michael B. Smith officiating. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park where military honors will be rendered. For those that wish, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
