David Best, 88, of Howland, Ohio went home to be with the Lord, January 30, 2024. He was the son of Otis and Mary (Devanney) Best.
Preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Barbara (Pucak); two brothers; and granddaughter, Patricia Best. He is survived by sons, Timothy (Bonnie), Mark (Brenda), and Kevin (Christy); grandchildren, Lauren, Shelby, Steven, Erin, David, Brianna and Danielle; and four great grandchildren.
David worked at Republic Steel/LTV Steel, retiring after thirty years. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, The Hudson Essex Teraplane Club/Western Reserve Chapter, Antique Automobile Club of (AACA)/Ohio Region, and Packard Museum.
After graduating Howland High School in 1954, David was invited to attend the 1955 spring training with the Washington Senators and tryout for a spot on the team. David ended up being the very last person cut that spring and did not make the team. When he got home, he joined the Army and was station at Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. His commanding officers found out he was a baseball player and recruited him to play on the 852nd battalion fast pitch softball team. The team won a number tournaments across the country.
To honor David’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private burial for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
