David P. Burns, 82, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 1, 2021. He was born March 15, 1939 in Akron to the late Edward and Marie (nee Manthe) Burns. Dave was a graduate of Central High School Wildcats and a proud veteran of the United States Marines. He retired from Hunt Machine and Manufacturing after 38 years' service and was a member of the Kenmore Church of the Nazarene.
He was heavily involved with Kenmore Youth Sports starting back in the late 1960's coaching Bantam football and moving on to youth baseball and football. His coaching path also included leading the Kenmore High School Cardinals' baseball team to a city series title in 1982. After his coaching days, he decided to umpire youth baseball then onto girls softball for several years before surrendering his athletic gear at the young age of 80. His passion was to mentor the athletes he coached. He also loved to golf and bowl.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda; sons: David (Stephanie), Jeff (Dawn), Jim (Micki); daughters, Jenny (Steve) and Peggy (Shane); fifteen grandchildren, Sheralyn, Russ, Anthony, Josh, Katie, Denea, David, Dustin, Jessica, Jake, Alex, Brandon, Ally, Jess and Andrew; ten great grandchildren; Special Nieces, Kathy Bailey and Julie Gradwhol and nephew Kevin Moore; Special In-Laws: Larry (Jan) Smeltz and Rick (Robin) Smeltz and Uncle Rollie (Marilyn) Walk.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., on Monday, May 10, 2021 at The Kenmore Church of the Nazarene, 2025 12th St SW Akron, Ohio 44314. Funeral Services will begin at 12 Noon on Tuesday at the Church with Pastor Gerald Gray officiating. Private family burial immediately following service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. For those that wish, memorial contributions can be made to the Church.
