Donald G Amtsberg

Donald G Amtsberg, 96, passed away on April 2, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Don was born in Salem, Ohio and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Collinwood High School in 1945 and immediately joined the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines at the conclusion of World War II. After the war, Donald took advantage of his G.I. benefits to attend Fenn College from which he graduated in 1951 with a B.Ch.E. degree and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi and Phi Epsilon Nu engineering honorary societies. After graduation, he joined the BF Goodrich Co and worked there as a chemical engineer until his retirement.

Don enjoyed playing sports, especially tennis, and participated as long as he was physically able. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and the Summit County Historical Society. He was an active member of the Firestone Park Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir and serving on the session. Don was an avid consumer of news and politics and an enthusiastic sudoku player.

Don will be remembered for his sense of humor, his willingness to offer advice, and his enjoyment in arguing with almost anyone about almost anything. He was lucky enough to have attended the 1964 NFL Championship game, but unfortunate enough to have remained a Browns fan for the following 59 years.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Gordon Amtsberg, mother Elsa Amtsberg and his wife of 71 years Geneva. He is survived by his daughter Holly Amtsberg, son Keith Amtsberg (Anne Marie) and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Firestone Park Presbyterian Church, 275 S. Firestone Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44301 with Rev. Frances Fischer officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service. Private burial will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery.
