Evelyn Thornton, 96, passed away restfully Saturday at St. Lukes Lutheran Community Center. Evelyn was born in Texas, and moved with her family to Akron when she was two.
She married her high school sweetheart, E. H. 'Jim' Thornton and raised two sons.
She retired from ICWU and traveled with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband Elza H. Thornton, sisters Helen Pleli and Alice Batchik, daughter-in-law Bonnie Thornton (Jim), and great grand-daughter Michelle "Shelly" Thornton. She was survived by sons E. Terry Thornton (Geri), H. S. 'Jim' Thornton both of Akron, grandchildren Kim Goffee (Jon) of Canal Fulton, Elaine Monroe (J Michael) of Seattle, Terry Thornton of Akron, Steven Thornton of Conneaut, Allison Thornton of Cleveland, great grandchildren Vanessa Nish (Dan) of Hudson, Sarah Massong (Mike) of Chicago, Courtney Goffee of Canal Fulton, Natalie Goffee of Canal Fulton, Megan Monroe of Seattle, T. J. Thornton of Wadsworth. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their extended families.
Calling hours will be from 5-6 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Schlup Pucak Funeral Home 788, Kenmore Blvd, Akron. A Memorial Service will follow with Pastor David McGrath officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Quality Ohio (.org). Private inurnment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
