Gary L Powell

Gary L. Powell, 79, of Akron passed away peacefully October 2, 2021. He was born April 21, 1942, to the late Wayman and Evelyn Powell.
Gary proudly served his country in the Navy before working for Sieberling Rubber Company. Following the closure of Sieberling, he went on to work for Compass Haul and Steele, as well as Roadway as a truck driver. He ended his career with Halasa Trucking co. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union, the VFW and the Polish American Legion.
He leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Jean Powell; daughters, Dawn Powell, Jennifer (Eric) Lawson, and Michelle Greenleaf; six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, as well as a host of family and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Elara Caring Hospice for their compassionate care and support in Gary's final days.
Family and friends may call Thursday October 14, 2021 from 10 to 11 am at the First Church of God, 464 Northeast Avenue, Tallmadge, Ohio, 44278. Funeral services will immediately follow. Internment will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville Ohio 44273 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elara Caring Hospice, 1530 N. Main St, Akron, Ohio 44313.
