James A. Draper, 84, of Uniontown went home to be with the Lord, July 17, 2023.
Jim was married to Becky (Pender) Draper, the love of his life, for sixty-one years; they were the best part of each other. As a father and a grandfather, he has been deeply loved and appreciated. His family was the most important part of his life, always. Jim earned the respect of many friends, family members and co-workers through the years, by his strong sense of responsibility, willingness to help and compassion.
Jim's faith in God was truly a guiding light to the end. He was very involved in his church and was always there to give a helping hand and the same applied to his years in Barberton Kiwanis (Morning Club).
A sense of humor was always laying in wait to be used and it was an ornery sense of humor. We all got a real taste of it on our annual summer vacation at the Outer Banks...no holds barred. It was also frequently displayed at our family dinners and gatherings to our delight.
Of Jim's many interests in his life, learning and playing the bagpipes was a challenge he took upon himself and accomplished it, playing in many parades and Scottish gatherings through the years. Oh yes, he enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting, but the pipes brought him much joy.
Yes, we had sorrows and sadness through the years, but much laughter and joy was experienced in our home. His family will always treasure the man he was and the legacy he left.
Jim was one of the "good ones" and he will be missed terribly by us all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Becky; Daughter, Kim (Jim) Clevenger; son, James (Jimmy); sisters, Linda (John) Snodgrass, Eleanor (Bob) Heston; grandchildren, Megan Clevenger, Ryan (Michaela) Clevenger and Kellan Draper
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at Firestone Park Presbyterian Church, 275 S. Firestone Blvd, Akron, Ohio 44301 with Rev. Frances Fischer officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time.
