JANET S.(MOORE) KAUFMAN BIER
Janet, age 59, passed away on a beautiful fall afternoon, October 2, 2013.
J anet was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She was a life-long resident of Uniontown, Ohio. She was a loving daughter, sister, cousin, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Jan dedicated 35 years to the children of the Akron Public Schools where she was an organized and effective elementary school teacher at both Ginther and Sam Salem Elementary, formerly Highland Park. Jan married her husband of 29 years, Robert “Bob” Bier on September 1, 1984. Together they shared a love of family, education, the teaching profession, and social gatherings with dear friends, most notably their book club, euchre group, and New Year’s Eve companions.
Jan gave birth to her only child, daughter Kara (Kaufman) Mitchell in April of 1980. Together they loved family traditions, especially those related to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Alpha Delta Pi, daily phone calls, and time spent together with Jan’s grandchildren, Winston Andrew and Katherine Janet. In 2009, Jan was diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal Cancer. With the help of her dedicated medical team, Jan spent many months over the past four years, cancer free. No matter how tough the journey, she never lost hope for the future or faith in her ability to persevere. Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Drs. Hopkins, Guyton, and McGee who provided her with excellent guidance, sound medical expertise, and trustworthy doctor-patient relationships. We would also like to extend our thanks to the staffs in Dr. McGee’s office, Akron General’s Cancer Treatment Center and Fairlawn Hospice.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Marian Moore and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins; Jim Guest and Roger Cole, and nieces; Emily Jo Messner and Jennifer Lynn Moore. Surviving family members include: husband Robert “Bob” Bier, daughter Kara (Andrew) Mitchell, grandchildren Winston and Katherine Mitchell. Step-son Paul (Paula) Bier and step-grandsons Zane and Wyatt Bier, brother Robert (Marianne) Moore, sister Linda (Greg) Stevens and many additional members of the Moore, Marchand and Bier families.
