Jim Lewis, 70 years old, of Uniontown, lost his 2 1/2 year battle with cancer in the early morning hours Saturday, May, 3, 2014, with his wife Janet by his side.

He was born on June 12, 1943 and was a long time resident of Akron. He graduated from Kenmore High School in 1961 and the University of Akron's Industrial Engineering program in 1968. Jim worked for Babcock and Wilcox for 41 years, as a pricing analyst, retiring in 2009. He was always active in his children's activities, which included Junior League Bowling Coach, T-ball and Minor League Coach in Kenmore Little League; President of Kenmore Little League; Coach of youth soccer. Jim attended Kenmore Community Church of the Nazarene where he served as Head Trustee for four years and assisted with Bible School where he will always be remembered as Professor Rufus Dufus.

Jim was a man who could fix anything and everything and was always willing to help anyone in need, physically or monetarily, with no recognition expected. He was quick witted and his co-workers always looked forward to his "message of the day" posted in his office. He enjoyed life; loved his home in Uniontown especially mowing his half acre of land, working in the soil planting flowers, sitting on his porch in his swing listening to the sounds of summer. His favorite activities were fishing, yearly trips to the Outer Banks and going on daily/weekly adventures with his wife. Most of all he loved being together and attending their children's and grandchildren's activities. He was a proud Dad and Poppie.

The family would like to thank physicians Scott Mabee, who always made sure he got the best care possible; Dr. Scott Magee, Oncologist, who was a true source of strength for him; the oncology nurses who he called his "angels" and the staff of Akron General Medical Center Oncology Center for their loving care and compassion. We would also like to thank our friends for all the phone calls, cards and support Jim was given during this difficult time. Thank you to our dear friends Barb and Denny Gearhart and Carol and Jack Carillon and neighbors Dave and Denise Rucktaschel. May God bless you all for your kindness and support.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Alice Lewis, and grandson Jacob Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janet, his children; Shawn Lewis Crawford (husband Chad- deceased), Todd Lewis (Fiancé Michelle Sanford) and Erik Lewis; his eight grandchildren, Cody, Cara, and Clay Crawford, Jordan and Lindsey Lewis, Cole, Brooke and Morgan Lewis; his sister Roberta Meeker; special Brother in law and Sister in law Bill and Joyce Jenkins, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4-8 pm at the Schlup Pucak Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd. Akron.
