Karen Ann Mickunas (Wilson), 80, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Battle Creek, Michigan on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024. Born on September 12th,1944 in Akron to Fred and Edna Wilson, Karen's warm presence graced the Kenmore community where she spent most of her life after graduating from Kenmore High School in 1962.

On November 7th, 1964, Karen joined hands in marriage with Daniel Mickunas, beginning a beautiful 55-year journey together until Dan's passing in 2019. Their deep bond was evident to all who knew them.

Karen's greatest joy was her family, who carry on her legacy of love: her daughter, Michelle A. (Steve) Sergent; son, Mike (Kim) Mickunas, cherished granddaughter, Katie (Ben) Mickunas-Sheehan, and grandson, Anthony Mickunas, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her brother, Larry (Jean) Wilson, sister-in-law, Rita (Todd) Chambers, and numerous brothers-in-law, nephews, and cousins who were dear to her heart.

Her professional journey began at Babcox & Wilcox, where she worked in the secretarial pool after high school. After dedicating precious years to raising her children, Karen returned to the workforce at Automatic Vendors before finding her niche at the University of Akron as lead storekeeper. In retirement, Karen's was actively involved in the American Legion Post 449, VFW Firestone Post 3383, the former Italian American Club on Kenmore Blvd., and the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.

Karen's zest for life shone through in her travels to the Carolinas, Naples, FL, and San Francisco, where she created lasting memories with friends and family. She took special delight in spending time with her grandchildren, filling their visits with laughter and joy. Her quick wit, her laugh, and warm heart touched everyone she met.

With her spirited euchre playing, avid reading, and neighborly kindness, Karen embodied the values of hard work, loyalty, and compassion. Even as health challenges slowed her pace in recent years, her gentle spirit and caring nature remained undimmed.

Following Karen's wishes, she will be cremated and reunited with Daniel at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at 1:45PM, Family and friends are invited to celebrate Karen's life at VFW Firestone Post 3383 starting at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 4th.
