Lana passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, surrounded by caring and love. Words cannot describe how much she will be missed. She was born April 15, 1947, and grew up in Kenmore with her brothers, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She graduated from Kenmore High School, and then earned her degree at the University of Akron. Lana worked at Yoder Brothers in Barberton, Ohio until marrying and moving to Portage County, where she lived and worked on the farm for most of her life.
Lana loved all things Disney, and her trips to Disneyland and Disney World were some of the best times of her life. She was a diehard Buffalo Bills fan and spent her time during football season watching all the games she could, regardless of which team was playing. Lana was an excellent cook, and truly enjoyed her time in the kitchen, cooking, canning, and baking – especially baking cookies at Christmas. She enjoyed sewing, and a variety of crafts, games, trivia, and puzzles. She excelled at gardening and loved looking at the flowers and watching the hummingbirds.
Lana lived with passion, loved deeply, and found great joy in simple things. She put others before herself, and touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was braver, tougher, and stronger than most people realized, and showed her love for others in countless subtle ways. She was also brilliant and witty, and loved to laugh. Her passing was sudden and unexpected, and I write this with a broken heart and fractured soul that will never be the same without her.
Lana was preceded in death by her brother Daniel Badgley, and her parents, Betty and Otho Badgley, who were lovingly known to all as Aunt Betty and Uncle Oats. She is survived by her husband, David Starcher, her brother, Larry Badgley, her daughter, Phyllis Badgley, their cat Spooky, her lifelong friend, Joan Morgan, and numerous cousins and in-laws.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Schlup-Pucak & Wilson Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron. Burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to service time.
