Patty Lou Hout-Calvert left this world on June 23

with her loved ones by her side. She was 77. In passing, Pat has joined the love of her life, Larry, whom she described as, “the only man who could ever put up with her.”
She often joked about her and Larry’s height disparity and swore that on their wedding day she could stand comfortably under his arm. However, throughout her life, it was Pat that took others under her arm. Pat was a nurturing and caring source of strength; she was a mother to all. Pat’s birth was a hotly debated topic. When asked her birthdate, whether for official business or a free dessert, Pat was quick to say, “now that’s the problem…” She was born in her parent’s home in Barberton, Ohio on June 28

, 1938 without a pulse. After being continually moved from hot to cold water, Pat decided she’d had enough and chose to officially take her first breath on June 29

Her parents had intended on naming her “Patricia-Louise” but the chaotic situation and the uncertainty of her birth led the doctor to scribble the shorthand version on her birth certificate. Thus, giving us Patty Lou. The themes of her birth followed Pat throughout the rest of her adult life: she was resilient in times of adversity, she could find humor in any situation, and she hated having her head under water. As an adult, Pat was a loving mother and a hardworking professional. A loyal employee at Essco Aircraft for 25 years, Pat put the company’s trade to practical use. Her wisdom, guidance, and unrelenting support allowed those fortunate enough to be touched by Pat’s love to spread their own wings and fly.
Pat was described by her children and grandchildren as “ornery,” a claim she would not quickly rebuff. In this time of reflection, her family jokingly remembers a story from her childhood. A self-aware hypochondriac, Pat pretended to be sick rather than get dressed up and join her parents and siblings at a funeral, a ceremony she strongly disliked. It is because of this sentiment that her family has decided to forgo a funeral and instead hold a short Graveside service at St. Michael’s Cemetery (7404 Coal Bank Rd. Marshallville, OH) 11 a.m. on Saturday May 28

Pat’s memory lives on in the lives of her loving children, Dawn Heeter (Craig), Debbie Osborne (Greg) and Keith; her adoring grandchildren, Aubrey, Renn, Ellen and Kris; her Brother Dave Hout (Debbi,) Sister Donna Johnson (Roger,) Larry’s sister Joyce Philpott (Bob) as well as numerous loved ones and others whose lives she touched along her journey. She will be sorely missed.
