Phillip E. Sherman (79) passed away on January 15th, 2022. He was born in Barberton, Ohio on July 31, 1942, to Kathryn and Tony Sherman.

He was a long-time member of Saint Augustine Church in Barberton. Phil was also a member of the Wadsworth Bottle Club, the Wadsworth Hunt Club and the NRA. He worked for many years at the Ohio Match Company but his true passion was being a golf instructor. He taught many people over the years at Copley Greens Golf Course, Loyal Oak Golf Course and kids from Copley Day Care.

Phil was a 1960 graduate of Barberton High School and maintained friendships with many classmates throughout the years. Those friendships meant a lot to him and he enjoyed their visits.

Phil loved to connect with people on Facebook although he was usually in Facebook jail (and proud of it). He also loved family traditions, family reunions and he loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Phil married the love of his life Alyce at 19 years old. They grew up and grew old together and will spend forever together in Heaven.

Phil cherished all of the time that he spent at the hunting camp, the annual Lucky Shoot before gun season and cooking for all of the guys. He truly was the best cook. He also loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren hunting and going on fishing trips to Canada and Chautauqua. He loved taking his great grandchildren fishing to catch “gilbert’s”.

Phil was a proud Italian and a true historian who loved to share his family history, many pictures and stories.

Over the years, he overcame many illnesses and hospital stays like a champ. We will miss him greatly and feel comfort knowing that he and our mom didn’t have to spend much time apart.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents, wife Alyce of 59 years and sister Cathy Labbate.

He is survived by his children, Phil (Theresa) Sherman, Tim (Lisa) Sherman, Alyson (Rick) Cope and Gina (Scott) Erwin; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Moni Sherman and Sister-in-law, Donna Ferrell. Phil (Poppy) loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had nine grandchildren, Ricky (Stephanie) Cope, Katie (Tommy) Henderson, Kaycee (Ben) Meister, Lauren (Jon) Porter, Brittnee (Dan) Knipp, Anthony (Kristian) Sherman, Hunter Sherman, Corey Erwin, and Harper Sherman (JT Koprivec). He also had ten great grandchildren, Kaden, Lucas, Tinslee, Peyton, Bradly, Saylor, Weston, Miles, Jolene Alyce and Everly.

Phil will be missed by all and we cannot wait to see him again in heaven.
