Richard J Gray

Born December 10, 1929 to Elise V. (Miller) and George T. Gray in Brooklyn, New York passed away February 28, 2018.

The family relocated to valley Stream, Long Island, where they established residence and a successful business. It provided work/income for Richard as he attended Hofstra College and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He graduated and obtained his Professional Engineering license in 1951.

He married Lillian Goebler, his "high school sweetheart" and had two sons while in New York. After one year at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, he joined the Babcock and Wilcox Company, NY office. He later moved to Ohio to B & W's main headquarters when the Engineering department was relocated. Their third son was born there.

He held a series of positions in Marketing and then in the Engineering Department Contract and Function. He returned to Marketing as Manager and later he managed the Proposal Engineering Department and later the Environmental Equipment Division. He took early retirement in 1980 and moved to Los Angeles where he was Chief Engineer for the E.F Braun Power Division for five years. He returned to Ohio and with his son, David, owned and operated a sporting goods store, The World of Weights in Kenmore, selling weight-lifting equipment. He retired for good and remained in Akron enjoying golfing with his fellow retirees.

Preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Lillian; sons, Thomas and Richard; he leaves behind his son, David; grandchildren, Rick and Nicholas (Shylo); great grandchildren, Cooper, Lillian and Louie; brother, George "Skeets" Gray.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. TONIGHT at the Schlup Pucak Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd, Akron, where Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev Bill Sterner officiating. Burial will take  place at a later date.
