Sherman Joe Powell, born June 14, 1933 passed away October 7, 2017 at the age of 84.

He was 1 of 6 children born to Clural & Violet in West Union, W. VA.  He moved to Akron in 1952. He worked at B.F. Goodrich for 42 years before retiring in 1994. He served his country in the military during the Korean War from 1953 until 1956 as a Voice and Morse-code Interceptor. Medals he received during his service are as follows; The National Defense Service medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Marksman Rifle 30 Caliber, Sharp Shooter 30 Caliber, and Good Conduct Medal.

He was preceded in death by his Father Clural, Mother Violet; Step Father Chester, Step Mother Clara; Brothers Alvin & Howard; Sisters Lorene & Marceline; Half Brother Dennis, and Great Grandson, Benton William.

He is survived by his wife, and love of his life of 63 years Doris J (Costilow); Son Joe, Son & Daughter-in-Law Jay & Marie; Grandchildren Kelly (Brian), Nicole (Matthew), Karen (Randy), Jay C (Stephanie), & Chad. He is also survived by 9 Great Grandchildren and 1 expected in April 2018, as well as his Sister, Irene; Half-Brother Bob, Half-Sister Elizabeth, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm. At Schlup Pucak Funeral Home, 788 Kenmore Blvd. Akron. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Greathouse Funeral Home, 1999 W. Main St. Salem, West Virginia  26426 where friends may call two hours prior to service time. Burial to follow at Keys Cemetery in West Union, WV.
