With love and deep sadness, we share the passing of William Gla Schwaberow, who left this world peacefully on April 10, 2025, at the age of 95 in Akron, Ohio. Born on March 1, 1930, in Akron, William spent the first half of his life in his hometown before moving to South Florida, where he built a life filled with hard work, quiet joy, and deep love for his family.
From 1950 to 1954, William served his country with pride in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed aboard the USS Joyce and the USS Wiltsie, where he forged lifelong friendships and carried with him the discipline, humility, and courage that would shape the rest of his days.
After returning home, he spent his career in construction as a superintendent—an honest, hands-on worker who believed in doing things right the first time. His crews respected him not just for his knowledge and leadership, but for the calm, steady presence he brought to every job site.
William had a natural gift for fixing things. He could repair just about anything and took quiet pride in every project, big or small. He loved being out on the water, boating under open skies, and enjoyed the simple satisfaction of solving problems with his own two hands.
But more than anything, William loved his family. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Marlyn Schwaberow, who passed in 2008. He was a strong and loving father, and nothing brought him more joy than being a grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them—telling stories, offering gentle advice, and simply being there with a smile and a steady hand.
William was preceded in death by his wife, Marlyn; his daughters, Donna Tidwell and Deborah Burress; and many dear friends who went before him. He is survived by his son, Daniel Schwaberow; his brother, Jack Schwaberow; his six grandchildren—Jason, Tiffany, Kelly, Sean, Sara, and Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his heart and legacy forward. William will be remembered for his strength, his kindness, his quiet humor, and the deep, unwavering love he gave to those lucky enough to know him. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be felt deeply.
In honoring his life, we carry his memory in the way we love, the way we work, and the way we care for one another.
